The Public International Business College Mitrovica (IBCM) is honored to welcome Mary Kate Cashman, from New Jersey, USA, a distinguished Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA), who commenced her year-long tenure in Kosovo. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Mary Kate holds a degree in International Peace Studies and Political Science. Her academic journey reflects a profound commitment to fostering dialogue and understanding across cultures.
Throughout her academic career, Mary Kate has demonstrated a strong focus on community-building. Her field research on integrated education in Northern Ireland and participation in the United Nations Women's Leadership for Peace program have further enriched her understanding of global peace initiatives.
At IBCM, Mary Kate is dedicated to enhancing students' English language proficiency, academic study habits, and professional development. She emphasizes the importance of critical thinking, respectful debate, and cross-cultural dialogue in her teaching approach.
“I hope to contribute to speaking and writing skills. Students here are very proficient in English, and I especially enjoyed the professor Mirsad class on respectful debate, which facilitates meaningful dialogue,” Mary Kate explains.
She values the close-knit nature of IBCM, noting that it allows for strong connections between faculty and students:
“It’s great to be in a place where everyone knows each other. It feels supportive and connected — a perfect environment for learning and sharing ideas.”
Mary Kate is equally impressed by the warmth and optimism of young people in Kosovo, observing:
“Everyone is so kind and friendly here,” she says. “Kosovo is beautiful — I love the hiking trails, and I’m inspired by how hopeful and motivated young people are to overcome the challenges of the past.”
Beyond her academic contributions, Mary Kate is passionate about research, volunteering, and initiatives in peace and reconciliation in Kosovo, and she looks forward to connecting with the wider community both on and off campus.
IBCM warmly welcomes Mary Kate Cashman and anticipates her contributions to fostering dialogue, learning, and cross-cultural understanding throughout her year with the college.
