Brussels Open Doors

Students from the International Business College Mitrovica recently visited Brussels, the de facto capital of the European Union. The trip is organised to help students across the region familiarize themselves with various aspects of the EU, including duties and responsibilities related to the EU, the European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Council. This year students from the International Business College Mitrovica were those lucky enough to be given the opportunity to visit.

IBCM students had the chance to talk with a number of influential people, including Mr. Ludo Tegenbosch, member of the speaker team and Directorate-General for General Communication, Ms. Cindy Van Den Boogert, Directorate-General for Enlargement, Mr. Jonas Jonsson, representative of the European External Action Service (EEAS) and representative of the Civilian Planning and Conduct Capabilities (CPCC).

The visit to the ‘Parlamentarium’, within the European Parliament, proved to be a very informative experience. The many exhibits, showcasing both old and new technologies, were very popular with our students. The goal of this visitor centre is to present the history of the EU, and its member states, through a multimedia experience. The European Parliament and its premises left a great impression on our students. The visit was made even better by the conversations our students had with both the Administrator of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Ms. Marta Udina, and Mr. Paolo Bergamasci, Advisor on Foreign Affairs for The Greens European bloc.

Students from the IBCM also visited the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), part of the European Free Trade Area (EFTA), and chatted with Ms.Lidija Topic, a senior advisor. Ms. Topic and her colleagues explained to students about Free Trade Area functions, obligations, expectations and benefits for a country part of the EFTA community. This experience left a great impression on the IBCM students. It also gave students a positive insight into the SEE (South East Europe) 2020 Strategy and its goals.

As you can see from the pictures, everyone had a great time!
